NAS specifics

There are two NAS models, base (for backing up to 2 servers) and advanced (for backing up to 8 servers). Following are the specifics:

  • Base Model can be used to backup up to 2 Servers and is based on the AMD Athlon FX2 Dual Core 3800
  • Base Model storage up to 250mb real space provided/backs up 500mb uncompressed (based on average 2:1 compression ratio) (NO RAID)
  • Base Model is a small form factor chassis that can be placed vertically or horizontally
  • Advanced Model can be used to backup up to 8 Servers
  • Advanced Model storage up to 1TB real space provided/backs up 2TB uncompressed (based on average 2:1 compression ratio)
  • Advanced Model is a tower based model with hot swappable hard drives (RAID 5)
  • Both models have an Operating System that is Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 based
  • Both models have virtualization software that is a hypervisor layer based on open source

More Features and Benefits:

Offsite Remote Storage
  • Stored at two XO high availability data centers in Phoenix and Baltimore.
  • 3 encrypted copies of backup images are stored at the data centers with data stored on mirrored SAN at the primary facility, then replicated to the secondary facility.
  • Connectivity provided by multiple providers with automatic failover capabilities.
  • Facilities provides two fiber optic network drops for our backbone.
  • Full physical security at each facility including security cameras, key card and biometric access.
  • Network is secured with high end redundant, automatic failover firewalls.
  • Fire suppression and environmental control provided.
  • Automatic back up power provided by on site generators.
  • Your data is never hosted at the collocation facility. This is done because we do not want or have access to the data, for security purposes. Only you should have the encryption key.
  • Verification tests are done to point out any data corruption. In the event this occurs, the NOC takes the steps to fix the corruption or re-image a completely new image should the corruption be irreparable.

Bare Metal Restore to Dissimilar Hardware

In the event of catastrophe or server hardware failure we can perform a bare metal restore to dissimilar hardware by manipulating the HAL Layer (Hardware Abstraction Layer) to install the proper drivers. We install the correct drivers for the new motherboard and components on the server machine.

OS and Application reinstallations not needed. This is done by restoring the image from the on-site NAS or from a new NAS which is imaged at the collocation facility and shipped to the Customer’s designated delivery point.

Restoration

In the event of catastrophe (such as a natural disaster or fire), you order a new NAS that will be imaged and sent out next-day business air. Depending on the NAS Model, multiple servers can be virtualized on one NAS while the NAS can also continue to perform backups. Your client’s data will not be hosted at the collocation facility. If one file is being restored, the Volume Mount restoration process is quite simple and takes very little time. This must be done by your engineers or ours. We simply mount a volume on the NAS device which is a complete image of the server’s volume. Once mounted, we copy and paste files over to a network share. Individual files, including Exchange mailboxes, the Message or Information Store and entire SQL Databases will be restored by our engineers or NOC team. You, as the customer, will not have restore capabilities as this is a sensitive process and errors may cause the corruption of the entire backup image. Additionally, most states provide that NO sales tax is required based on the fact that this service is performed for you. We will verify this with you relative to your state’s tax code.
